Charity and the Environment
A page dedicated to social responsibility, charity and the environment.
This year we have been thinking about what positive changes we can make to the business to help the environment and reduce our Carbon Footprint.
We are implementing 3 changes and will be looking to add to these, if not through the busy winter season then in the spring and beyond.
Already we use our own shopping bags, we have a compost and we make choices when shopping to purchase seasonal produce with as little plastic as possible and without palm oil.
Our 3 Environmental Improvements for Winter:
Biodegradable Amenities – Alpine Action Adventures will be sourcing guest amenities that are biodegradable and eco-friendly. We are having trouble finding biodegradable packaging at this point but are in talks with a couple of companies and in the meantime we will have refillable dispensers in rooms with green products and recyclable packaging. This will dramatically cut down on waste.
Toothbrushes – Each guest will receive a bamboo toothbrush that they can take with them. Bamboo trees can grow up to one meter per day and we have sourced our brushes from a company with a sustainability programme.
One Tree Planted – We have made a commitment to plant a tree for each of our guests this year. We are working through One Tree Planted who work with amazing reforestation organizations around the world that need financial support to help them get more trees in the ground.
They pool the donations for each project and send the funds to our reforestation partners. We vet our partners to ensure that we maintain a tree survival rate of 80-90%.
Depending on the project, our partners choose the best tree species to plant and work with local communities to get them in the ground. Planting typically happens in the rainy season when the soil is wet and provides optimal conditions for tree survival.
Charity
Our Charity for 2018/2019 will be announced very soon…
Every year Alpine Action Adventures chooses a charity to support with guest donations, sporting events and activities for 2017/2018 our charity was The Teenage Cancer Trust:
Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer.’ We’re the only charity dedicated to making this happen.
“After seeing how the Teenage Cancer Trust looked after a family member we wanted to raise as much money as possible for this fantastic charity. The challenge Simon has set himself is difficult but doesn’t compare to what patients being helped by the Teenage Cancer Trust go through, it is an honour to represent them.”
Starting on the 30th of June Simon will attempt to complete an Ultra Triathlon. The swim leg will involve swimming the length of Lake Geneva (73km) followed by an epic cycle of 516km through the mountains of the Haute Savoie finishing with a 126km run, the Montagn’Hard in Les Contamines, all to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
He will have unbelievable support along the way – this is an effort by a troop of people with Simon at the centre. Get the full details and donate to the cause here Simon’s Ultra Triathlon
